OutVoice officially launches its freelancer payment tools – TechCrunch
OutVoice, a startup with which editors can pay freelancers at the push of a button, has officially left the beta test and is open to any publication.
The company also announces that it has raised an undisclosed amount of seed capital from content monetization startup Coil.
OutVoice was founded by Matt Saincome and Issa Diao (see picture above). When the product was still in beta last year, Saincome shared that it was created to “solve a terrible problem for anyone” involved with the publishing of freelance work: As a freelance writer, had to he was constantly listening to editors so he could get paid, but as the founder of the satirical sites The Hard Times and Hard Drive, he realized that managing payments was a huge headache.
OutVoice simplifies the entire process through direct integration into WordPress and other content management systems. When editors load a story into the CMS, they can also identify the contributor and the payment amount. As soon as you click on “Publish”, the payment is sent and should be on the freelancer ‘s return account within a few days.
This means freelancers don’t have to worry about payment delays, while publications don’t have to worry about tracking bills and writing checks (or losing their best writers and photographers if they don’t stay up to date).
OutVoice also takes care of the first onboarding paperwork that the freelancers need to fill out and generates monthly reports for accounting and taxation. Publications can pay for the service either per transaction (5% of payments plus $ 1 per transaction) or via a monthly subscription starting at $ 29 per month.
By working with Coil, OutVoice can use new payment technologies such as Interledger.
“Our goal at Coil is to make it easy and hassle-free for content creators to get paid,” Coil CEO Stefan Thomas said in a statement. “During the beta phase, OutVoice had already removed hundreds of years of lag between freelance content creators and their paychecks. We’re excited to partner with OutVoice to promote more efficient payment solutions and processes, and give developers more time and money to build. “
