Australia – Contract watch: Freelancer awarded NASA contract

Australia-based Freelancer Ltd. (ASX: FLN) announced that it has signed a contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States.

Freelancer secured a $ 510,000 contract with the US Bureau of Reclamation to improve the speed of the US Bureau of Reclamation’s sedimentation and flow hydraulics model.

According to freelancer, NASA’s Sedimentation and River Hydraulics Challenge is looking for a “stable, fast and parallelizable sparse linear equation solver (numerical algorithm implemented in a subroutine) for typical CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) models.”

“To date, NASA has received over 13,000 product designs from more than 6,000 product designers. We’re excited to help Reclamation and NASA improve the speed of sedimentation and the flow hydraulic model with the world’s greatest online talent in the new, by an order of magnitude, challenge, “said Freelancer Chief Executive Matt Barrie.

Of the total, $ 300,000 will be paid out to freelancers. This prize challenge is provided in two stages of $ 150,000 each. Challenge participants have 29 weeks for Level 1 and 34.5 weeks for Level 2 to complete their submissions.
